An Archive of Post Descriptions

2015

September
Started with an image of a train speeding out of Chicago. From there, more trains, destinations unknown.

August
A break from posting for August.

July
After beginning with images of the sea, I've had to suspend images for a bit because of a family illness. So hold with the last image of rescue, and know that Abaculi images will pick back up (at the latest) on September 1, 2015.

June
Felines & occasional monkeys or apes.

May
All of May's images have been in graveyards.

April

I've been taking April off, but I'll try to get a post or two a week up through the month this year. The last two posts in March featured a dog for Abaculi's friend Thurber. Moving into the new month, I've published another image with a dog, though with a decided change of tone. What comes next, I'll discover as I go.

March

The connective tissue this month is the inclusion at the foot of every image a label or immediately adjacent text. The post titles, as always, are taken or condensed from nearby text.

February

Couples, at odds, and otherwise.

January

Sleds, sleigh, sledges, etc.

2014

December
Winterish or Christmasy things, maybe a little edge here and there.

NovemberThe first post of this month shows a woman with a gun. I think the second will have a pirate. Let's see where that takes us.

October
Seasonal witches.

September
Peril, mostly from creatures in the natural world.
August
A break from posting for August.

July
As I'm working toward final release on The Abaculi Project (still working with contributors on proof and notes) it seemed right this month to explore history and technologies associated with publishing.

June
Chiefly divers & more underwater mysteries.

May
Creatures of the sea, mythic or otherwise. (With one exception, May turned out to be mostly mermaids.

April
Like Fatty Coon in my March 31 Abaculi post, I need to be "out for an airing," and so will take the month of April off from posting new images to the blog.

March
An owl for the first snowy Monday of March. Let's see where this goes.

February
Relationships between women—friendly or romantic. Perhaps a little pre-1925 innuendo from time to time.

January
Starting out with an image of a rescue dog with more canines, domestic and otherwise, to come.

2013

December
A wintery mix of seasonal fare. Discovering as I go.

November
Couples, pairings, duos, intimate friends--that sort of thing.

October
Arguably a little less focused than last month, it looks like October takes the lead from its the first post for the month, "Good Rough Games of Play," though whether always good remains to be seen.

September
Back to the mines. Both my mother's family and my late father-in-law's family have roots in coal mining. This month, I'll have a look around for images related to mining that capture my eye or imagination.

July / August
Looks like July is going to be be something along the lines of encounters between animals and children. (After a respectably long run of one post a day, I'm dropping to three images a week for this month as I look at how to sustain this effort and other projects simultaneously.) Then a nod to August and a vacation from posting for the rest of that month.

June
Page ornament with titles based on adjacent text.

May
Them what has six or more legs & sometimes wings.

April
Fools, clowns, jesters, and the like.
(Scariest clown ever on April 29th entry? Just what is he gesturing with his finger and fist?)

March
Rabbits for my birthday month.

February
Well before the recent movie, the poet Steve Scafidi turned my attention to Lincoln with a series of fine poems, some of which are available online at Shenandoah and Blackbird. February's posts, with a nod to Scafidi, are images of Lincoln from the digital archives.

January
Skates, sleighs, snowshoes, & skis
